Chair of BCS Guidelines and Practice Committee

The British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) is looking to recruit a Chair for its Guidelines and Practice Committee.

Reporting to the Vice President (VP) for Clinical Standards, the post-holder is responsible for providing leadership to the Guidelines and Practice Committee. The core responsibility is to provide a reputable and reliable source of expert opinion on contemporary guidelines relating to cardiovascular disease. The committee does not generally develop its own guidelines, rather it aims to provide high quality and evidence-based stakeholder input to the development of guidelines which are put out for consultation, such as those published by NICE. The committee may also be required to provide input into policies relating to good clinical practice.

Commitment

The position will be for 3 years. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. The post-holder will have to commit the time needed to deliver on the responsibilities as set out in the role description and will chair up to three meetings of the Guidelines and Practice Committee per year. One meeting per year is normally held in person at the BCS annual conference. Other meetings are generally virtual teleconferences. In addition to Guidelines and Practice Committee meetings, the post holder may be required to attend occasional Executive or Board meetings, with advanced warning.

Applicants should have the support of their Clinical Director or Clinical Line Manager for the role.

The workload can be very variable depending on external bodies and their timetable of guideline development. An indicative figure for the amount of work involved would be around 3-4 hours per week.
